Schools - Education Intervention
The Education Intervention Programme offers young people in Yorkshire and Humber an insight into the AEM sector, and encourages them to see it as a worthwhile career option. It facilitates a range of practical experiences supporting their entry into the AEM sector.
This is a three year programme which aims to:
- Engage with at least 20 schools
- Arrange 60 work placements per year
- Host showcase events (link to Schools events page) attracting over 1000 students.
There are several different strands to this programme, aiming both to raise the profile of the AEM sector to young people who may be unaware of it, and to allow those already working towards a career in this field to obtain professional development advice and industry experience. These are:
- Industry visits. Groups of young people in the age range 12-16 will visit local industries in the AEM sector for tours, to fit in with the curriculum where possible. These visits will primarily be to Special Metals Forum (SMF) members.
- Ambassador visits. Each school will be linked to a particular ambassador from that company. This is someone who will be available to the school for 6 days a year for curriculum support, career advice and advice on specific projects.
- Roadshow. A ‘stand' that will be available to attend local careers/subject selection events in schools, to encourage students to take options leading to a career in the AEM sector, and to outline the routes into these careers.
- Work experience. For young people already involved in courses/apprenticeships ideally suited to the AEM sector, NAMTEC will be offering two week placements with local industries.
