The Northern Wind Innovation Programme

The Northern Wind Innovation Programme
Funding and support for the offshore wind industry in northern England.

A new programme has been launched with the aim of supporting the offshore wind sector in the North of England. The Northern Wind Innovation Programme (NWIP) will see £2.6million of grant funding made available to northern companies currently active, or with potential, in the offshore wind sector.
NWIP is a two year project funded through the Northern Way Partnership and delivered by NaREC and Envirolink Northwest.

The programme aims to:

  • Drive innovation in the offshore wind sector through provision of a £2.6million research fund
  • Increase knowledge transfer between academia and industry
  • Enable northern companies with capabilities or potential in the offshore wind sector to identify and realise these opportunities
  • Enhance the reputation of the North as an international centre for wind technology.

The funding process began in June with a series of short information events and the programme is now entering a crucial phase, forming collaborations around project ideas. This process is being facilitated through a series of programme workshops, providing an opportunity to find project partners and share ideas.
