Recent Events
Here is a summary of some of the recent events and seminars held in support of the AEM sectors.
AEM Yorkshire Offshore Wind Event - 21st April, Hull
Over 60 companies were represented at the AEM Yorkshire Offshore Wind Event. Indeed, the event proved so popular that an additional afternoon session had to be held to accomodate all those who could not be squeezed into the morning session.
AEM Director Alan McLelland presented an overview of the exciting wind power developments which have been announced in recent months. Details of Crown Estates Round 3 and the significant announcements by major manufacturing companies were covered, as well as a comprehensive review of current offshore wind technology.
The main item of this event was the presentation from Tim Barraclough of Enterprise Europe Yorkshire (EEY). EEY are putting together a brochure of the region's offshore wind manufacturing capabilities, to be used to bring inward investment to the region and to promote companies wishing to increase business links with the continent. All present took advantage of this offer, and provided extensive details of their capabilities for inclusion in the brochure.

AEM Yorkshire Access To Finance Event - 25th March, Bradford Twenty companies were represented at the recent AEM Yorkshire Access To Finance event. This breakfast event, held in Bradford, gave AEM members the chance to hear details about a number of finance sources which are available for regional companies.
Yorkshire Forward's Simon Riley gave details of how the region's development agency can give your company financial assistance. This was followed by Tim Barraclough of Enterprise Europe Yorkshire (EEY). Tim, and colleague Andy Taylor, gave an outline of how EEY can help your company to access a number of funding sources such as the European Framework Programme 7.
The third presentation was delivered by AEM Director Alan McLelland, who outlined the offerings from the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). The morning's proceedings were completed in the traditional AEM Yorkshire manner, with refreshments and ample opportunity for networking with fellow AEM members.

Innovation Network Launch Event - 21st January 2010, Rotherham
The AEM Innovation network launch event was held at the Advanced Manufacturing Park in Rotherham. Over 100 AEM members heard presentations on two of the networks' key themes; low carbon vehicles and energy efficient construction techniques. AEM Yorkshire Off Shore Wind Power Breakfast Briefing - 5th November, Rotherham
Presentations from Northern Wind Innovation Programme and NAMTEC detailed opportunities in both the current, and the potential future off shore wind developments. This AEM Yorkshire event was attended by 35 companies, who heard presentations on wind farm development policies and the manufacturing supply chain.

Nuclear Skills Passport - 8th October Garforth, Leeds
Over 50 different companies were represented at the recent AEM Yorkshire Skills for the Nuclear New Build event. The main topic was the Skills Passport, administered by the National Skills Academy for Nuclear, which is the mechanism used to record and standardise training.
Details of the Skills Passport were presented by the National Skills Academy for Nuclear, with emphasis on its ability to reduce training duplication between sites and contactors. It is essential that companies are aware of the Skills Passport if they intend to become involved in the nuclear new build programme, as was confirmed by a presentation from Westinghouse.

Linking Businesses with the Knowledge Base. 2nd June at Swinden House, Rotherham.
The day highlighted the ways in which businesses can work with Universities and Research and Development Organisations to get the level of support most appropriate for them.
Innovation through a Recession - 8th June, AMPTC, Rotherham
Lord Digby Jones, ex Trade Minister and CBI Chairman and Tom Riordan, Chief Executive of Yorkshire Forward, were the keynote speakers at this event. This was a technologies showcase event connecting Regional Technology Centres within Yorkshire Forward's Technology Transfer Programme with real industrial opportunities. Delegates gained an insight into the technologies on offer and how they can benefit their own businesses.
Oil and Gas Market Sector Report - 16th June, Swinden House, Rotherham
This event, hosted by the Special Metals Forum (SMF), focussed on materials supply chains in the various sub-sectors of the industry and coincided with the launch of the SMF Oil and Gas market sector report. It was well attended with over 80 delegates from industry and the knowledge base, providing a great opportunity to engage directly with the supply chain and for potential suppliers to gain an insight into the current and future developments within the sector.
European Titanium Conference - 23rd-24th June, The Belfry, Birmingham
Over 150 delegates from 17 countries attended the European Titanium Conference organised by NAMTEC that was held recently at the Belfry Golf Club & Conference Centre in Birmingham.
